Engine Analysis

In order to meet Federal Exhaust Emission and Fuel Economy regulations, today's vehicles are equipped with highly sophisticated electronic engine control systems. These systems do not require periodic adjustments. The only services required on a scheduled basis are spark plug and filter replacement. Tune-ups, as we knew them, are no longer necessary. Engine Control ComputerThe computer receives information from a network of sensors and switches that convert engine operating conditions into electrical signals. Based on the information and instructions stored in the computer program, commands are then sent to three primary systems:
The sensors that monitor one or more of these systems include

Computer DiagnosticsDiagnosing a computer related problem (your "Check Engine" light has come on) involves connecting a computer diagnostic unit to the vehicle computer system which will establish a communication with the central vehicle computer system. This will allow the technician to run a series of tests which will determine the exact cause of a system malfunction and determine the procedure to repair the fault. The diagnostic procedure typically takes about one hour, but can be longer depending on the complexity of the fault code and condition. As a result, diagnostic charges are separate from repair charges—as we must first find the cause of the problem before we can determine the cost to repair it. Our ASE certified technicians use the latest in engine diagnostic equipment to verify the cause of a computer malfunction and the means necessary to repair it. We keep up with required training on new vehicle technologies so that you can be confident we will be able to isolate and correct your computer-related problems efficiently and economically. |
