Drive Belts and Hoses
What Our ASE Certified Technicians DoThe following components are inspected. Their condition is recorded and compared to manufacturer's specs. Recommendations are made per the Motorist Assurance Program Uniform Inspection Guidelines Exposure to heat, vibration and contamination makes belts and hoses wear out faster than any other components in your car. That's why regular inspections are so important. Here are the belt and hose types in your car, along with their applications. Belts Visual Inspection
Accessory Drive BeltsWhile some accessories in your car are electrically powered by the charging system, others use the engine itself as their power source. The power for these accessories is delivered by a system of pulleys and belts. Examples of these accessories are:
Many late model cars use a single serpentine belt in place of individual belts to drive these accessories. |
Engine Timing BeltsThe timing belt is an extremely critical engine component which connects the engine crankshaft with the camshaft to properly "time" the opening of the engine valves during normal operation. This belt will wear out over time, and every vehicle manufacturer recommends replacement of this belt at prescribed mileage intervals to prevent breakage (which can result in catastrophic engine damage). Since there is no simple visual inspection to verify the condition of this belt (it would require removing numerous components and covers); it is imperative that this belt replacement service be accomplished within the specified time frame recommended. Our ASE certified technicians can handle replacement of your timing belt in a timely and efficient manner to maintain proper engine operation. Hoses Visual Inspection
HosesThe hoses that convey your car's fluids are made of two rubber layers with a layer of fabric in between. Typical hoses include:
